Big Apple Circus
VAAPVI and
hundreds of other
families and
groups attended The Big Apple Circus’ Circus of the Senses on
October 1st. The Circus
of the Senses is a special performance offered free of charge to
children with special needs. Wireless headsets offer an audio
description of the performance to people
with visual impairments while American Sign Language
interpreters were located in designated areas for the hearing
impaired. Prior to the circus, large print and Braille programs
were sent out to ticket holders with visual impairments. After
the show, there was a touch session where children could meet
the performers and feel the props and animals. The performers
took the time t o
answer the children's questions and assisted them in exploring
the various tools used to put on the show. "The performers were
very friendly and good with the kids and our group enjoyed the
event tremendously," said VAAPVi President Dawn Peifer. " The
music was great and had lots of children standing up and dancing
in place. It was wonderful." The hour long show was a perfect
length, giving enough excitement to certainly make you want to
come back again. The Big Apple Circus tours New York, Boston ,
Atlanta, and Dulles VA, offering at least one Circus of the
Senses version of the show in each location.
